Energetic acts - the powers of the Warlocks
Energetic acts
In this world, magical abilities are powered by energy. You use energy to use your powers so you need to recharge if you want to use more powers. The amount of energy you need depends on the difficulty, range and duration of your act as well as your own physical and mental health, your magical identity and how practiced you are.Difficulty refers to how the difficult the act is in general. Some acts are simply more difficult to do than others because they take a greater deal of focus, mobility and/or energetic strength. This level can decrease if the person doing the act is skilled or has practiced the act.
Range refers to how spread-out the act is. There’s a difference between manipulating one drop of water or a whole wave of water. The wider the range, the more energy it takes to control. Acts that aren’t object-oriented (i.e., that isn’t actively targeting anyone or anything) takes the least amount of energy since there’s no need to focus on range. These acts are also less controlled and therefore a lot less powerful.
Duration refers to much time the act is active. It takes more and more energy to uphold an act, the longer it has been active.
If you’re physically or mentally tired, you generally have less energy to store because you’re using more energy to simply live. Therefor you need to recharge more often to use your powers.
There are three different categories of energetic acts.
Affinity acts which are acts that are linked to the affinity of the magical identity. For example when a Water Warlock manipulates water. These acts require the least amount of energy since most of the time you can simply recharge with the energy stored in the element you’re manipulating. However, the bigger range and duration, the more extra energy you’ll need. Affinity acts are solely defined by the element and is a fairly large category. For example, as a Fire Warlock an affinity act could be to light a fire or it could be to raise your body heat or it could be to boil some water. Acts made by Godia Warriors linked to elements, whatever they might be, are also called affinity acts, as Godia Warriors simply have all affinities. Godia Warriors are also encouraged to often use small affinity acts to let go of some of all the energy, they constantly have in their bodies.
Common acts are not necessarily connected to an element (however this can be debated, as some would argue that everything is connected to elements). These common acts can be made by all Warlocks no matter their affinity. These are for example small acts of telekinesis, enhancement of other abilities such as strength and stamina and energy shields to block attacks made with other acts. Some of these acts, such as making your wallet fly to you hand, doesn’t require much energy and is fairly common amongst all Warlocks to use, but the larger common acts, mostly those of action, require a lot of energy. The two main differences between common acts and affinity acts are that every warlock can use common acts and that common acts require much more energy in general, because the warlock can’t just recharge with the energy of the act.
Energizing acts are acts solely used to help the warlock to recharge. Now, it’s important to note, that without using these acts, Kirsha warlocks recharge/energize throughout the day automatically if they’re around their element. But they can only energize automatically to a certain level so if they need to do acts that require more energy or if they need to recharge after using a lot of energy on acts, they need to do energizing acts. These acts are also connected to elements, and a Kirsha Warlock will need to use their element to do these acts. The more connected they can be to their energy (for example if a Water Warlock is under water and surrounded by water) and the longer they have to do these acts, the more energy they can store. Kirsha Warlocks do have a limit to how much energy they can store in their body and though they can cross that limit with energizing acts, they should only do so if they know that they’ll use the energy soon after or they’re body will start to reject the energy, causing the same side effects (but more extreme) that Godia Warriors have.
Godia Warriors never need to do energizing acts as they constantly energize themselves automatically with the elements around them (they’re kind of like magnets in that regard).
Enferi and Nachon warlocks are the only warlocks who do not energize automatically since the spirit it hidden away in the body or needs focus to grab onto, if it leaves the body (through emotions, connections and atmospheres). Some Nachon Warlocks might have learned how to instinctively use energizing acts to recharge throughout the day without having to actively do the act, but that can be dangerous as they’re not fully in control over the energy they store and it also means that they’re draining the energy of the other people surrounding them. However, being in tense situations with lots of spirit in the atmosphere and emotions (or if they for example have a nightmare) can help a Nachon Warlock restore their energy without having to grab onto another person spirit, as the tension releases energy connected to Spirit, that does not belong to an individual spirit. Same can occur in situations with lots of positive emotions, but that’s harder to grab onto since the density of such emotion is lesser.
Enferi Warlocks cannot in any way automatically or instinctively energize even in high-spirit situations. They always need to do energizing acts to recharge. Therefor it’s part of the routine at The Iostanity Monastery to do these acts together as part of religious rituals. Unlike the Nachon Warlocks they don’t have to take from a Spirit to energize but can use these energizing acts to multiply the energy of the spirits in the act, creating more energy for every participant of the act.
